London Born Vocalist/Violinist Owen Valentine (Formerly Fiidla)
has performed on major stages in Jazz, Pop, R&B, and other idioms around the world. After initial tour work with The Sun Ra Arkestra, Owen went on to perform with George Duke, Gil Scot Heron, Parliament Funkadelic, Surface and countless others. His vocals are soul-tinged jazz, stretching over a 4-octave range. His performances show influences as wide ranging as Donny Hathaway and Al Jarreau to Prince and Stevie Wonder.
An innovative performer, Owen's performances are marked by excitement and passion, showcasing his smooth tenor voice and soulful sounds of his 5- string electric violin! His soulful renditions of his original music and soul classics are just a starting point that lead to the creation of spontaneous works of music with every show is a new adventure In sound and intensity.
Contributing vocalizations and violin compositions to radio, television and film, Owen produced and hosted his own music and health focused television program, "The Renaissance Show", on Comcast and has been a guest on countless other programs. Performances and recordings with a who's who of Rhythm and Blues includes Mary J Blige, The OJays, Santana, Teddy Pendergrass, Anthony Hamilton and more. A graduate of Temple University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Owen garnished recognition as a leading vocal technique and performance coach, servicing A-list artists in every idiom and has been profiled on BET, MTV, VH1 and other networks.
An Artist with a social conscious, Owen has contributed performances to multiple social causes and supports disaster relief and homeless relief efforts. He has released 4 recordings as a leader including the acclaimed, "The State of Things", garnishing critical attention.
His soon to be released "Renaissance" project will showcase his take on the classic soul sounds of the 70's and feature all live acoustic instrument arrangements. His project collaboration with Emmy award winning Tap dancer Jason Samuels Smith,"Transformation", drew standing ovations at New York's Lincoln Center and Martha's Vineyard amongst the many other venues it visited.
Currently Owen leads an ensemble of string players, singers, and instrumentalists called Urban Classique and is pursuing an active touring and performance schedule.
